JON TESTS - Precipitation is formed by Sulfate and bonum lons clumping together Ba²+ (aq) + SO4²- (ong) Ban Soy (s) (insoluble) Role of hydrochlonc acid, banum sulfonte is not the only insoluble compound bamum carbonate is aswell so will also produce on white precipitonte so dilute acid is used to bind with carbonote ions in solution forming CO₂ + H₂0. not every dilute acid can be used eg. sulfunc acid contains sulfate lons so will air- eady form on white precipitonte Test for carbonate lons - 1. add engedvs acid to suspected solution, if positive CO₂ will form 2. test the gas by bubbling it through lime worter, if positive lime woter will tum cloudly (O₂(g) + Ca(OH)₂ (aq) (on (03 (5) + H₂0 (1) Calcum carbonate is formed white precipitate (ca(03) carbonate compound • Cloudy lime water Test can also be used for hydrogencarbunate lon Test for ammonium lons 1. add sou wum hydroxide into the solution (NaOH) Nhut + NOOH NH,+H2O 2. war the mise ture. 3. to test the gas produced with damp red litmus paper If positive red litmus...
