Astra biogas bottom up project, medium scale project. - astra = application of science + tech in rural areas done in rural india researchers actually spent time w/ local ppl to find out what problems they have- majority of these problems deal w/ collecting fuel wood (every fam needs 25-30 kg a week) it takes hrs to collect + supply is low be of increasing populatio £190 funded by non government organisations + families who install them - intermediate tech used-solution - cow dung which contains biogas which can be used for cooking, power ing electricity generators etc. cow dung is put intoa stone pir in the ground covered in a dome which is filled 83 w dung then ferments it to make methane which is pumped into homes.
