Religious Groups of Southwest Asia
Ever wondered how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam compare? These three major religions all originated in Southwest Asia but have distinct features. Jews follow the Torah and worship in synagogues, with important holidays like Yom Kippur and Passover. Christianity, with over 2.3 billion followers, centers around Jesus and the Bible, celebrating Easter and Christmas in churches.
Islam, founded in 622 AD, follows the teachings in the Qu'ran. Muslims pray in mosques and observe Ramadan as an important holiday. While Judaism has about 14.3 million followers worldwide, Islam has grown to 1.2 billion members. Each religion has its own divisions - Judaism has Reform and Conservative branches, Christianity includes Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant denominations, and Islam divides into Sunni and Shi'a.
All three religions trace importance to Abraham, though they view his role differently. Judaism considers Jerusalem (Canaan) sacred, Christianity values Bethlehem, and Islam holds Mecca and Medina as holy cities.
💡 All three religions are monotheistic (believing in one God), but they have different symbols: the Star of David (✡) for Judaism, the cross (+) for Christianity, and the crescent moon (☪) for Islam.
