Ready to dive into Filipino literature? This Grade 11-12 course... Show more

This isn't your typical boring literature class - you're about to explore 21st century literature that's actually relevant to your life! The course is split into two exciting parts: Philippine regional literature and world literature, each lasting 40 hours.
You'll start by diving deep into literary works from your own region and comparing them with literature from other parts of the Philippines. Think about it - every region has its own unique stories, from Luzon's urban tales to Mindanao's rich cultural narratives.
The coolest part? You'll study everything from traditional poetry to modern blogs, mobile phone text tula, and flash fiction. Yes, even your favorite social media posts can be literature!
Your main goals are to write close analysis papers about literary texts and create multimedia adaptations using technology. You'll become a literary detective, uncovering hidden meanings and cultural connections that make these stories powerful.
Pro tip: Start collecting stories, poems, or interesting posts from writers in your region - you'll need these for your projects!

Here's what you'll master in the first quarter, and trust me, these skills will make you stand out in any college application or job interview!
You'll learn to identify geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimensions of Philippine literary history from pre-colonial times to today. This means understanding how location, language, and culture shape the stories we tell.
The research component is where things get really interesting - you'll conduct oral history research with key personalities from your area. Imagine interviewing your lola about old stories or talking to local writers about their inspiration!
You'll also analyze literary techniques and devices like a pro, understanding not just what authors write but how they write it. Plus, you'll learn to situate texts in regional and national contexts, seeing the bigger picture of how your local stories fit into Philippine literature.
The ultimate challenge? Creating a multimedia adaptation of a literary text using ICT skills. This could be anything from a video interpretation to an interactive website - let your creativity run wild!
Remember: Every Filipino writer started somewhere, and understanding your regional literature connects you to that amazing tradition.

Don't worry about being perfect right away - this course is designed to be flexible and supportive of your learning journey. The performance standards can be modified based on your abilities and readiness, so you can grow at your own pace.
Your teachers have the discretion to adjust time between Philippine and world literature sections depending on your class's needs. This means if your class is really excited about local writers, you might spend more time exploring them!
The self and peer assessment component is crucial - you'll learn to evaluate your own creative adaptations using clear criteria before presenting them. This builds confidence and helps you become an independent learner.
Remember, the goal isn't just to memorize information but to develop critical thinking skills that will serve you in any field you choose later.
Success tip: Keep a learning journal throughout the course to track your progress and reflect on how different literary works connect to your experiences.

Get ready for a literary world tour! The second quarter focuses on 21st century world literature from Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. You'll discover how different cultures express universal human experiences through storytelling.
This section emphasizes textual and contextual reading approaches, meaning you'll learn to understand literature both on its own terms and within its cultural context. It's like having a cultural GPS that helps you navigate different literary landscapes.
You'll work with the same core skills - close analysis, critical interpretation, and multimedia adaptation - but now applied to global literature. The beauty is seeing how themes like love, conflict, and identity appear across different cultures.
The performance standards remain challenging but achievable: write analytical papers, create critical interpretations using different approaches, and adapt texts creatively using technology.
Global perspective: Notice how writers from different countries tackle similar themes - you'll be amazed by both the differences and similarities!

Now comes the exciting part where you'll develop advanced literary analysis skills that colleges and employers love to see. You'll learn to distinguish between literary and non-literary language use, understanding the formal features that make literature special.
Your ability to examine relationships between text and context will become sophisticated - you'll see how biographical, linguistic, and sociocultural factors enhance meaning and reader understanding.
The multimedia adaptation projects are where you'll really shine, combining traditional literary analysis with modern technology. You could create anything from podcasts discussing themes to visual art inspired by poems.
Critical reading strategies will become second nature, helping you understand deeper meanings and making you a more thoughtful consumer of all types of media, not just literature.
The peer assessment component teaches valuable collaboration skills - you'll learn to give and receive constructive feedback, preparing you for workplace teamwork.
Career boost: These multimedia and critical thinking skills are exactly what universities and employers are looking for in today's digital world!

Understanding these terms will make you sound like a literature expert and help you ace your assignments! Biographical context helps you understand how an author's life influences their writing - it's like getting the inside scoop on why they wrote what they wrote.
Close analysis is your secret weapon for understanding literature deeply. It's like being a detective, examining every word choice, structure, and device to uncover larger themes and meanings.
Modern genres like chick lit, blogs, and creative nonfiction prove that literature isn't stuck in the past. These forms address contemporary issues in ways that feel relevant and engaging to your generation.
Critical interpretation and critical papers are your main academic writing tasks. Think of them as your chance to argue for your unique perspective on a literary work, backed up by solid evidence from the text.
Study hack: Create flashcards for these terms and use them in casual conversations - you'll memorize them without even trying!

Figures of speech and literary techniques are the author's toolbox for creating powerful effects. Unlike literary elements (which every story has), these are deliberate choices authors make to convey meaning in specific ways.
Flash fiction and hyperpoetry represent literature's exciting digital future. Flash fiction tells complete stories in under 1,000 words, while hyperpoetry uses interactive links to create non-linear reading experiences.
Mobile phone text tula shows how traditional Filipino forms like tanaga adapt to modern technology. These 7-7-7-7 syllable poems prove that literature evolves with society while maintaining cultural roots.
Literary traditions connect you to centuries of storytelling heritage. Understanding these traditions helps you see how contemporary writers build on, respond to, or rebel against established patterns.
Sociocultural context reveals how literature reflects and criticizes society, making even old texts relevant to understanding current issues and social dynamics.
Connection tip: Try writing your own text tula or flash fiction - experiencing these forms as a creator deepens your understanding as a reader!

21st century literature is characterized by being gender-sensitive, technologically aware, and culturally diverse. These works often question traditional norms and operate on extremes of reality or fiction - perfect for your generation's complex world view.
Oral history research connects you directly with living sources of cultural knowledge. This method involves interviewing people with first-hand experience of events or conditions, creating valuable historical records while you learn.
National literature serves as more than entertainment - it's the "bond of national unity" and expression of a country's intellectual life. Understanding this helps you see why studying Philippine literature matters for cultural identity.
Speculative fiction encompasses science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other imaginative genres that are incredibly popular today. These forms often explore social issues through creative, non-realistic settings.
The beauty of contemporary literature is its diversity - from traditional forms to experimental digital art, there's something that will resonate with your interests and experiences.
Research opportunity: Start your oral history project early by identifying interesting people in your community who have stories worth preserving!

Don't let the coding system intimidate you - it's actually pretty simple once you break it down! EN12Lit-Ia-21 breaks down into clear components that help organize your learning.
EN12 tells you this is English for Grade 12, while Lit specifies the Literature component. The Roman numeral indicates the quarter (I for first quarter), and the lowercase letter shows the specific week.
The final number (21) identifies the exact learning competency you're working on. For example, competency 21 is "identify the geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimensions of Philippine literary history from pre-colonial to contemporary."
This system helps teachers track your progress and ensures you're meeting all required standards. It also makes it easier for you to understand exactly what skills you're developing each week.
Understanding this organization shows you're taking a systematic approach to literature study, building skills progressively rather than randomly jumping between topics.
Organization tip: Use these codes to create your own study schedule and track which competencies you've mastered!

I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it. Would 100% recommend
