Urinary and Reproductive Systems
Your urinary system does much more than just eliminate waste fluids. Comprising the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, this system regulates the volume and chemical composition of your blood. It maintains water and ion balance, which is critical for cell function throughout your body.
Surprisingly, your kidneys also play a role in red blood cell production by releasing hormones that stimulate your bone marrow. This showcases how interconnected your body systems truly are.
The reproductive system varies between biological males and females but serves the same fundamental purpose—producing sex cells (gametes) for reproduction. In males, testes produce sperm, while in females, ovaries produce eggs. These specialized organs, called gonads, also produce hormones that influence development and function throughout the body.
Connect the dots: Your urinary system filters about 45 gallons of blood each day, but you only produce about 1-2 quarts of urine—that's efficient recycling!
