Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes... Show more

Our intuition often misleads us due to hindsight bias (the tendency to believe we knew it all along) and overconfidence in our judgments. We also tend to see patterns in random events. That's why psychology relies on scientific inquiry to distinguish reality from illusion.
A good scientific theory organizes information, makes clear predictions, stimulates research, and can be replicated by others. Psychologists test theories by creating hypotheses (testable predictions) and using various research strategies like case studies , naturalistic observation (observing behavior in natural settings), and surveys (gathering information from many people).
For surveys to be effective, researchers need a random sampling of the population rather than a biased sample. They also must be careful about question wording, as it can significantly influence responses.
💡 The scientific method is a continuous cycle: theories lead to hypotheses, which lead to research, which confirms, rejects, or revises theories.
Experiments allow researchers to determine cause and effect by manipulating variables while controlling other factors. This typically involves comparing an experimental group (receives the treatment) with a control group (does not receive the treatment), allowing researchers to isolate the effects of the variable being studied.

Psychological science aims to discover general principles that explain many behaviors rather than focusing on specific cases. Laboratory experiments might seem artificial, but they're designed to test these broader principles that help explain everyday behavior in multiple contexts.
Research in psychology follows strict ethical guidelines. Organizations like the American Psychological Association (APA) require researchers to obtain informed consent from participants, protect them from harm, maintain confidentiality, and provide a full debriefing afterward explaining the purpose of the study.
When analyzing data, psychologists use various statistical measures to make sense of their findings. Measures of central tendency include the mean (average), median (middle score), and mode (most frequent score). Each provides different insights about the data distribution.
💡 For research findings to be considered statistically significant, the differences observed must be large enough that they're unlikely (less than 5% probability) to have occurred by chance.
Measures of variation like range and standard deviation show how spread out the scores are. Many psychological variables follow a normal curve distribution, where most scores cluster around the mean and fewer scores appear at the extremes. Understanding these statistical concepts helps psychologists interpret data accurately and avoid misleading conclusions.

When two variables change together, psychologists call this a correlation. A positive correlation means both variables increase or decrease together (like study time and test scores), while a negative correlation means as one increases, the other decreases (like smoking and lung capacity).
The strength of a correlation is measured by a correlation coefficient, which helps researchers understand how closely two variables are related. This is often visualized in a scatterplot where each dot represents values of two variables. However, it's crucial to remember that correlation does not prove causation - just because two things are related doesn't mean one causes the other.
Sometimes we perceive relationships that don't actually exist, called illusory correlation. This can be reinforced by regression toward the mean, where extreme scores tend to move closer to the average over time, creating a false impression of cause and effect.
💡 To determine causation rather than just correlation, psychologists use experiments with independent variables (factors they manipulate), dependent variables (outcomes they measure), while controlling confounding variables (other factors that might influence results).
To ensure valid results, researchers often use double-blind procedures where neither participants nor researchers know who's receiving the treatment. This helps separate actual treatment effects from the placebo effect, which occurs when expectations alone cause changes.

I think it’s very much worth it and you’ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still don’t get it!!! In the end I think it’s worth it 😊👍 ⚠️Also DID I MENTION ITS FREEE YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING AND STILL GET YOUR GRADES IN PERFECTLY❗️❗️⚠️

I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it. Would 100% recommend
