Let's practice finding the values of some powers: 82=64, 35=243, and 113=1,331.
Exponents and powers are related but different. An exponent is the small raised number that tells you how many times to use the base as a factor. A power is the entire expression that includes both the base and exponent.
When checking if a number is a perfect square, ask yourself: "Can I find a whole number that, when multiplied by itself, gives me this number?" For example, 10 is not a perfect square (no whole number squared equals 10), but 100 is a perfect square $10^2 = 100$.
Quick Tip: You can quickly identify smaller perfect squares by memorizing them: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, and 100. This will save you time on tests!
