Dividing Fractions

Ever wondered how to divide one fraction by another? It's easier than you might think! Unlike adding or subtracting fractions, you don't need common denominators.

The process works in three simple steps. First, take the second fraction (the divisor) and flip it upside down - this is called taking the reciprocal. Second, change the division sign to multiplication. Third, multiply the fractions normally and simplify your answer if needed.

Let's try an example: $2/3 \div 1/4$

Flip the second fraction: $1/4$ becomes $4/1$
Change division to multiplication: $2/3 \times 4/1$
Multiply across: $2/3 \times 4/1 = 8/3$

💡 Remember this shortcut: "Keep, Change, Flip" - Keep the first fraction, Change the division sign to multiplication, and Flip (invert) the second fraction.

You can check your answer with real-world thinking. If you divide something by $1/4$ , you're asking "how many quarters make up my number?" - so your answer should be 4 times larger than what you started with!

I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it.
