Dive into the fascinating world of simple invertebrates! From sponges... Show more

Sponges belong to Phylum Porifera, meaning "pore bearers." These simple animals attach to rocks and stay in one place their entire lives (sessile). Unlike most animals, sponges lack nervous, digestive, and circulatory systems!
Sponges have a tube-like body with only one opening called an osculum where water and waste flow out. Their walls contain stiff, needle-like structures called spicules for support. Special cells called collar cells create water currents by beating their flagella, drawing water through tiny pores in the sponge's body.
These organisms feed by phagocytosis - collar cells engulf food particles from the water and digest them internally. This process is called intercellular digestion since it happens inside cells rather than in a digestive system. Waste products exit through the osculum.
Did You Know? Sponges are hermaphrodites, having both male and female reproductive parts. They can reproduce both asexually through budding and sexually by producing eggs and sperm!

Cnidarians include jellyfish, coral, and sea anemones. These animals have a simple nerve net instead of a brain and display radial symmetry (their body parts are arranged around a central axis). They rely on water pressure for body support.
One fascinating aspect of cnidarians is that they exist in two forms. The polyp form is cup-shaped and tubular with mouth and tentacles at one end and a sticky base at the other. Sea anemones and corals are examples of this form. The medusa form is free-swimming and umbrella-shaped with the mouth facing downward, like adult jellyfish.
Both forms have tentacles that capture food and bring it to their mouth. From there, food enters a hollow central cavity where digestion occurs. Many cnidarians like jellyfish alternate between these two forms during their life cycle, while others like coral exist only as polyps.
Cool Fact: Jellyfish move by pumping their bodies in a way similar to opening and closing an umbrella, creating a distinctive jerky upward motion through water!

Jellyfish have a fascinating life cycle called alternation of generations. They switch between sexual and asexual reproduction methods throughout their lives!
The cycle begins with the adult medusa (jellyfish) form that reproduces sexually, producing eggs and sperm. After fertilization, a zygote develops into a planula larva that settles on a surface. This grows into a polyp that reproduces asexually through budding. The buds develop into ephyrae, which mature into adult medusae, completing the cycle.
This alternation between body forms and reproduction methods gives cnidarians flexibility in their environments. It allows them to spread widely and adapt to changing conditions throughout their life stages.
Remember This: Even though jellyfish look so different from corals, they're related cnidarians with similar body plans - just in different forms!

Worms have more complex body systems than sponges or cnidarians. Most worms use extracellular digestion, breaking down food in a digestive system before it reaches cells. However, parasitic worms can absorb nutrients directly from their host's intestines.
Worms have sensory organs that feed information to their nervous system, which consists of bundles of nerve cells called ganglia. Most reproduce sexually, with many being hermaphroditic (having both male and female reproductive parts). After fertilization, terrestrial worms like earthworms lay eggs in cocoons, while aquatic worms release eggs into water where they may develop into larval forms.
The circulatory system varies among worm groups. Segmented worms have a closed circulatory system with vessels, flatworms lack a circulatory system and use diffusion to spread nutrients, while roundworms use body cavity fluid for transport. All worms exchange gases directly through their skin rather than using specialized respiratory organs.
Fascinating Application: Doctors sometimes use leeches (a type of segmented worm) on skin graft patients! Leech saliva prevents blood clotting, which helps blood vessels from different pieces of skin grow together.

There are three major groups of worms, all showing bilateral symmetry (two matching sides). Some species in each group are parasitic, while others are free-living.
Flatworms (Phylum Platyhelminthes) have flattened bodies as their name suggests. Examples include tapeworms, flukes, and planarians. They lack a circulatory system and rely on diffusion to distribute nutrients throughout their simple bodies.
Roundworms (Phylum Nematoda) have long, slender bodies tapered at both ends. Unlike segmented worms, they aren't divided into sections. Roundworms are incredibly abundant and can be found virtually everywhere on Earth, from soil to water to inside other organisms. Hookworms are a well-known example.
Segmented worms (Phylum Annelida) have cylindrical bodies divided into many consecutive ring-like segments. Earthworms and leeches belong to this group. They're the most complex worms, with a closed circulatory system and highly specialized body segments.
Environmental Impact: Earthworms eat decaying organic matter in soil and enrich it with their waste, making them incredibly important for soil health and agriculture!

I think it’s very much worth it and you’ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still don’t get it!!! In the end I think it’s worth it 😊👍 ⚠️Also DID I MENTION ITS FREEE YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING AND STILL GET YOUR GRADES IN PERFECTLY❗️❗️⚠️

Knowunity is the BEST app I’ve used in a minute. This is not an ai review or anything this is genuinely coming from a 7th grade student (I know 2011 im young) but dude this app is a 10/10 i have maintained a 3.8 gpa and have plenty of time for gaming. I love it and my mom is just happy I got good grades

I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it. Would 100% recommend
