Market Equilibrium and Price Changes
Market equilibrium happens when demand equals supply - think of it as the perfect balance point where everyone's happy. At this market clearing price, every product gets sold because buyers and sellers agree on what's fair.
When anything changes in the market, you'll get a new equilibrium price and quantity. Here's the key difference you need to remember: if only the price changes, you get a movement along the curve. But if anything else changes (like income, tastes, or production costs), the entire curve shifts to a new position.
Demand curves shift when consumer income changes, other products become cheaper or more expensive, fashion trends change, or advertising influences people. Supply curves shift when production costs change, new technology emerges, government adds taxes or subsidies, or businesses change their expectations about the future.
Quick Check: Remember that price changes = movement along curves, whilst everything else = curve shifts!
How Prices Control Markets
Prices do three brilliant jobs in any market, and understanding these will help you predict what happens next. The rationing function kicks in when something becomes scarce - prices shoot up to discourage people from buying too much. Oil is a perfect example: as it runs out, higher prices make people think twice about using it.
The incentive function motivates producers to make more when prices rise because they can earn higher profits. It's like a green light telling businesses "make more of this!" The signalling function sends opposite messages to buyers and sellers about whether to enter or leave markets.
Rising prices tell consumers to back off whilst encouraging new producers to jump in. Falling prices do the opposite - they attract buyers but warn producers to consider leaving. Think about smartphone prices: when they rise, new manufacturers see an opportunity and enter the market.
Real World: Free healthcare signals to patients they can visit doctors for minor issues, but discourages private providers from competing!

I think it’s very much worth it and you’ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still don’t get it!!! This is not an ai review or anything this is genuinely coming from a 7th grade student (I know 2011 im young) but dude this app is a 10/10 i have maintained a 3.8 gpa and have plenty of time for gaming.
