Understanding ICT and Web Basics

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is basically all the digital tools you use daily - your phone, internet, computers, and apps. It's the technology that lets you locate, save, send, and edit information instantly. Think of it as the backbone that connects people and makes everything from online classes to business operations possible.

The World Wide Web is like a massive library where documents connect to each other through clickable links (hypertext links). You access this through a web browser - the app you use to surf the internet, like Chrome or Safari.

Every website is a collection of related web pages hosted on a server. It's like having a digital book where each page serves a specific purpose, whether it's your school's homepage or your favorite online store.

Quick Tip: Remember that the web and internet aren't the same thing - the web is just one service that runs on the internet!

Web 1.0: The Static Era

Web 1.0, also called the static web, was like reading a digital newspaper - you could only view content, not interact with it. These pages were "flat" and stationary, meaning you couldn't post comments, create accounts, or change anything.

Static websites have some solid advantages. They load super fast, cost less to host, and don't need constant developer maintenance. They're perfect for simple information sites that don't change much.

However, static sites have major drawbacks. If you need frequent updates, maintenance costs can skyrocket. You can't offer user registrations or interactive features, and you'll always need a developer to make changes - even small ones.

Real Talk: Most websites today are dynamic, but static sites are making a comeback for blogs and portfolio sites because they're lightning fast!

Web 2.0: The Interactive Revolution

Web 2.0 transformed the internet into the interactive playground you know today. Coined by Darcy DiNucci in her article "Fragmented Future," this era focuses on collaboration and sharing. Instead of just consuming content, you can now comment, create accounts, and contribute your own posts.

Dynamic websites make up most sites you visit daily - Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and even online shopping sites. The content changes based on user input and interactions. You can like posts, leave reviews, upload videos, and customize your experience.

This shift enabled massive user participation across the web. Social media platforms, blogs, wikis, and video sharing sites all emerged from Web 2.0 technology, giving everyone a voice online.

Fun Fact: Web 2.0 didn't just change websites - it completely changed how businesses operate and how people communicate worldwide!

Web 2.0 Features and Mobile Revolution

Web 2.0 introduced game-changing features that shaped today's internet. Folksonomy lets you categorize content with hashtags (#trending), while rich user experience means websites respond to your actions and show personalized content. User participation allows anyone to contribute - think product reviews on Shopee or Lazada.

The long tail concept means services are offered on-demand through subscriptions rather than one-time purchases. Software as a Service lets you use programs like Google Docs without buying expensive software.

Mobile technologies exploded because smartphones can now handle tasks that once required desktop computers. Different devices use various operating systems - Android (Google), iOS (Apple), Windows Phone (Microsoft), and others like BlackBerry OS and Symbian.

Pro Tip: Understanding these features helps you recognize why modern websites work the way they do - and why your phone is so powerful!

Web 3.0 and Current ICT Trends

Web 3.0, also called the semantic web, represents the next evolution where machines understand human preferences to deliver personalized content automatically. Created by Tim Berners-Lee (who also invented the World Wide Web), this technology aims to make websites "smart" enough to predict what you need.

However, Web 3.0 faces several challenges. Current browsers and HTML files don't fully support it yet. Security concerns arise since machines store your preferences, and the web's vastness (billions of pages) makes implementation complex.

ICT trends are transforming daily life through convergence - combining different technologies into single devices. Your smartphone can now create Word documents, take professional photos, and run complex apps that once required separate devices.

Reality Check: Web 3.0 isn't fully realized yet, but you're already experiencing early versions through personalized recommendations on Netflix and YouTube!

Social Media Revolution

Social media has become the dominant force in modern communication, letting users create, modify, and share content instantly. These platforms transformed from simple networking sites into powerful tools for business, education, and social change.

Social networks like Facebook and Google+ connect people with similar interests or backgrounds. Bookmarking sites such as Pinterest help organize and share useful links. Social news platforms like Reddit let users post and discuss current events.

Media sharing sites (YouTube, Instagram, Flickr) focus on uploading photos, videos, and music. Microblogging platforms like Twitter emphasize short, frequent updates. Blogs and forums (WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr) provide spaces for longer-form content and discussions.

Assistive media serves as a crucial nonprofit service, helping people with visual and reading impairments access digital content through audio recordings and specialized tools.

Key Insight: Each social media type serves different purposes - understanding these differences helps you choose the right platform for your goals!

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

I think itโ€™s very much worth it and youโ€™ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still donโ€™t get it!!! I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it. Would 100% recommend
