The Pituitary Gland and Hypothalamus

Your pituitary gland is often called the "master gland" because it controls so many other endocrine glands. The anterior pituitary creates hormones under hypothalamic control, while the posterior pituitary stores and releases hormones made in the hypothalamus, including antidiuretic hormone (which conserves water in your kidneys) and oxytocin (which triggers contractions and milk production).

Your adrenal glands sit atop your kidneys and have two distinct parts.
