nature of communication
- communication is a process of sharing and conveying messages or
information from one person

What is Communication Really About?

Think about your last group project discussion or that awkward conversation with your crush - that's communication in action! Communication is basically the process of sharing messages between people, whether it's face-to-face, through chat, or even just through your facial expressions.

You're constantly communicating in different ways. Sometimes you use words (like texting your friends), sometimes it's just actions (like rolling your eyes at your sibling), and often it's both at the same time (like nodding while saying "oo nga").

Communication serves tons of purposes - you use it to inform your parents about your whereabouts, motivate your teammates during sports, express your feelings when you're stressed, or even persuade your teacher to extend a deadline. It's literally the tool that helps you navigate every social situation in your life.

Pro tip: Communication isn't just about talking - it's about getting your message across effectively and understanding others too!

information from one person

The 5 Key Functions + Communication Process

Communication has five main jobs in your daily life. First, it controls behavior (like when your mom tells you to clean your room). Second, it enables social interaction - basically how you connect with friends and family. Third, it motivates people to do better. Fourth, it lets you express emotions when you're happy, sad, or frustrated. Finally, it spreads information like school announcements or the latest chismis.

Understanding the communication process is like knowing the parts of a machine. You have the context thesituationโˆ’likewhetheryouโ€ฒreinclassoratapartythe situation - like whether you're in class or at a party, the sender (whoever's speaking), and the listener (that's you when someone's talking to you).

Messages travel through different channels - your five senses. You hear words, see facial expressions, feel a pat on the back, or even smell something that communicates a message. The response and feedback you give back shows whether the message got through clearly.

Watch out for: Noise can mess up communication - it could be actual noise, or even just being hungry and unable to focus!

Communication Models That Actually Make Sense

Don't worry - these models of communication aren't as complicated as they sound! Aristotle's model is perfect for understanding presentations and speeches. It focuses on the speaker carefully planning their message based on their audience. Think about how you'd explain TikTok differently to your lola versus your classmates.

Shannon-Weaver's model is all about dealing with noise that messes up your message. Like when you're trying to have a serious conversation but your kuya is blasting music, or when poor signal makes your video call choppy.

Schramm's model emphasizes that you and the person you're talking to need shared experiences to understand each other. That's why inside jokes work with close friends but confuse strangers. The transactional model shows how real conversations work - you're constantly switching between being the sender and receiver, just like in your group chats where everyone's responding at the same time.

Key insight: Different situations call for different communication approaches - a formal presentation needs more planning than a casual chat!

Breaking Down Communication Barriers

Real talk - communication barriers are like invisible walls that mess up your conversations and can seriously affect your grades, friendships, and family relationships. These obstacles prevent your messages from getting through clearly, leading to misunderstandings and conflict.

Physical barriers are probably the easiest to spot and fix. Maybe you can't hear your teacher because you're sitting too far away, or your phone keeps glitching during video calls. Sometimes it's environmental distractions like construction noise outside your classroom, or even physical disabilities that make communication harder.

The good news? Physical barriers have practical solutions. Stay updated with technology (nobody wants to be the one whose phone can't handle the latest apps), remove obvious obstacles, and use visual aids when possible. If you're struggling to hear in class, simply move closer or ask your teacher to speak louder.

Quick fix: Most physical barriers can be solved by changing your environment or using better tools - don't suffer in silence!

Cultural and Language Barriers Hit Different

Cultural barriers can be tricky because they're not always obvious. Your Bisaya classmate might interpret directness differently than your Tagalog-speaking friend, even when you're all speaking English. Different cultural backgrounds affect how you show respect, express disagreement, or even make jokes.

Language barriers go beyond just speaking different languages. Sometimes you use words that mean different things to different people, or your vocabulary isn't broad enough to express complex ideas. Regional differences matter too - "comfort room" versus "bathroom" might seem small, but it can confuse people from other countries.

Overcoming these barriers takes effort but it's totally doable. Speak slowly and clearly, especially with classmates who might be more comfortable in their regional language. Ask for clarification instead of pretending you understand - it saves everyone from awkward misunderstandings later. Be specific with your words and choose your communication method wisely sometimesafaceโˆ’toโˆ’faceexplanationworksbetterthanatextsometimes a face-to-face explanation works better than a text.

Cultural tip: When in doubt, ask respectful questions about cultural differences instead of making assumptions - most people appreciate your effort to understand!

Emotional Barriers Are Real (And Totally Normal)

Let's be honest - emotional barriers probably mess up your communication more than you realize. When you're stressed about exams, scared to speak up in class, or dealing with family drama, your ability to communicate clearly takes a hit. Your emotions can make you shut down or, on the flip side, make you say things you don't really mean.

Fear, insecurity, mistrust, and stress are the usual suspects that create emotional barriers. Maybe you don't participate in class discussions because you're afraid of being wrong, or you can't focus on what your parents are saying when you're anxious about your grades.

The solution isn't to ignore your emotions - that never works anyway. Instead, build self-motivation and commitment to improve your communication skills. Having peer or mentor support makes a huge difference too. Talk to trusted friends, family members, or teachers about your communication struggles.

Remember: Everyone deals with emotional barriers - acknowledging them is the first step to overcoming them and becoming a better communicator!

Best app if you're in Highschool or Junior high. I have been using this app for 2 school years and it's the best, it's good if you don't have anyone to help you with school work.๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿฉท๐ŸŽ€

This app is phenomenal down to the correct info and the various topics you can study! I greatly recommend it for people who struggle with procrastination and those who need homework help. It has been perfectly accurate for world 1 history as far as Iโ€™ve seen! Geometry too!
