What is a Parabola?
Think of a parabola as a perfectly balanced curve where every point is exactly the same distance from two things: a fixed point and a fixed line. It's like nature's way of creating perfect symmetry!
The focus is that special fixed point, while the directrix is the fixed line. The vertex sits right in the middle - it's literally the midpoint between the focus and directrix.
You'll also need to know the axis of symmetry (the line that cuts the parabola in half) and the latus rectum (a line segment through the focus that's always 4c units long). These parts work together to give every parabola its unique shape.
