ACTIVITY 14 Many Filipino citizens are dissatisfied with how our government officials respond to the crises being faced by our country. Given the opportunity, if you were a government official in our country nowadays, what would you be? Specifically, what position in the government would you be having the president/DOH secretary/Baguio mayor/Presidential spokesperson? If given an opportunity to serve, I would like to be the president. Given the current situation wherein Covid-19 cases are continuously increasing, I would like to make a move and implement regulations that could prevent it from spreading more instead of bickering with some government officials and focusing on the elections that is yet to happen. We cannot deny the fact that the current administration has failed the Filipinos during this pandemic. We lost so much to the point that the debt of the Philippines is already thirteen trillion. Corruption and killings are adamant, men in uniform lost their credibility due to recent happenings that led to deaths of many innocent lives, and there's also an unnecessary budget allotment instead of paying attention more to those who need it most. The hospitals are jam-packed and medical front liners are paid low that does not compensate for their sacrifices to tend for those inflicted with the virus. Moreover, the distribution of the vaccines is...

really slow. Not even one-fourth of the population is yet vaccinated. Really, the situation of the country is worsening and it's because of lack of actions from the current administration. I would be an official who will fulfill her duties wholeheartedly. I will serve my people with all my heart and soul. I will hear the pleas of my people and never lose sight to my goal of serving them. I would like to become a leader who will inflict an effective change to my country no matter how difficult it may be. I would implement laws and policies that would benefit my country. ACTIVITY 15 Do you think the "equal opportunity principle" and the "difference principle" of Rawls' theory of justice are seen/applied in our country's taxation system? If NO, why? If YES, in what sense? I think the equal opportunity principle and the difference principle of Rawl's theory of justice ARE NOT applied in the taxation system of our country. Taxation is the sovereign's inherent power, exerted through the legislative, to impose obligations on subjects and objects within its jurisdiction in order to raise income for the government's legitimate purposes. Tax equity is a principle that states that a government's tax system should be fair to all citizens. Taxation is never a fair system. For example, regressive taxation taxes everyone the same amount, regardless of their financial ability to pay. As a result, the poor pay a far higher percentage of their discretionary income than the wealthy. This sort of taxation is exemplified by a state sales tax. For a gallon of milk, the poorest consumer pays the same amount of tax as the wealthiest. Why is the excise tax on a car worth P2,000,000 proportionately higher than on a car worth P600,000.00? We are told that a "rich" person who purchases a high-priced car should pay a higher tax rate, which is reasonable. Shouldn't the tax on a "cheap" automobile bought by a rich guy be higher, and the tax on an expensive car bought by a "poor" man-who saved his entire life to make the purchase-be lower? As is the case now with the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion, the topic of "fairness" in tax laws is contested with millions of words and enormous emotion. "Trying to achieve an unjust advantage for one individual or group" should be the meaning of "fair." Fairness refers to the ability to make decisions that are free of bias. Our taxes not only unjustly burden the poor while benefiting the wealthy, but they also generate insufficient money given the distortions they produce. Needless to say, these issues must be rectified quickly.
This document contains some ideas about being of service to others and the Rawls’ theory of justice which differentiates the “equal opportunity principle” and the “difference principle”.
