Ever wonder how your texts, calls, and conversations actually work?... Show more

When you send a text or talk to a friend, you're participating in a communication process that scholars have been studying for centuries. Let's start with the linear models which show communication as a one-way street.
Aristotle's Model focuses on public speaking rather than everyday conversation. In this ancient Greek model, a speaker delivers a message to an audience with the goal of persuading them. Think of a politician giving a campaign speech—they're the center of attention, trying to influence listeners.
The Transactional Model represents a more modern view where communication is a two-way exchange. Both people take turns being sender and receiver, with messages flowing back and forth through channels. Unlike simpler models, this one recognizes that we communicate within shared social and cultural systems.
💡 The transactional model explains why texting your friend works differently than speaking to a stranger—you share background knowledge and experiences that make communication smoother!
The Shannon-Weaver Model (also called the Telephone Model) introduced the critical concept of noise—anything that interferes with communication. This model includes six components: sender, encoder, channel, decoder, receiver, and noise. Originally designed for telephone communication in the 1940s, it helps explain why your message might get lost or misunderstood.

The Schramm Model proposes that effective communication happens when there's overlap between people's "fields of experience"—everything that makes them who they are. Your unique combination of knowledge, memories, and background affects how you communicate.
When you talk with someone who shares similar experiences, communication flows more smoothly. That's why inside jokes work with friends but confuse outsiders—you need shared context to understand certain messages.
Eugene White's Model visualizes communication as a continuous circle without a clear beginning or end. This model breaks communication into eight stages: thinking, symbolizing, expressing, transmitting, receiving, decoding, feedback, and monitoring. White introduced the important concept of feedback which "closes the loop" between communicators.
💡 Think about how different texting feels compared to face-to-face conversation—in person, you get immediate feedback through facial expressions and tone of voice!
Berlo's SMCR Model accounts for the emotional aspects of communication, breaking it into Source, Message, Channel, and Receiver. This model recognizes that communication skills, attitudes, knowledge, and social systems all affect how we send and interpret messages. Your message travels through channels (the five senses) and needs proper structure and coding to be understood correctly.

Berlo's Model (continued) emphasizes that a message must be properly structured to be conveyed clearly. The way you organize your thoughts matters! This model also highlights how the five senses help humans communicate—we don't just use words, but also process visual cues, tone of voice, and sometimes even touch, smell, or taste.
When you're giving a presentation, you're using Berlo's principles whether you realize it or not. Your knowledge of the topic, communication skills, attitude, and understanding of your audience all affect how well your message is received. Even your cultural background influences how you communicate!
The Helical Model, developed by Frank Dance in 1967, introduces a fascinating perspective on communication. Imagine a spring or spiral that moves both upward and downward—that's how Dance viewed the communication process. This model shows that communication is dynamic and changes over time.
💡 The Helical Model explains why your communication style has evolved since childhood—as you grow, your experiences and vocabulary expand, changing how you express yourself!
According to this model, communication isn't just a circle but a continuous process that progresses as we age and gain experience. Our vocabulary grows, our understanding deepens, and our communication becomes more sophisticated. Think about how differently you communicate now compared to when you were a child!

I think it’s very much worth it and you’ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still don’t get it!!! In the end I think it’s worth it 😊👍 ⚠️Also DID I MENTION ITS FREEE YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING AND STILL GET YOUR GRADES IN PERFECTLY❗️❗️⚠️

I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it. Would 100% recommend
