Understanding Linear Formulas

Linear Equation Forms
Ever wonder how to write the equation for a straight line? There are several ways to express linear equations, each with its own advantages. The most common form is slope-intercept form: y = mx + b, where m represents the slope (steepness) and b is the y-intercept .
Another important version is standard form: Ax + By = C, where A, B, and C are constants. This form is helpful when dealing with certain types of problems or when the slope might be undefined.
When you know a point on the line and its slope, you can use point-slope form: y - y₁ = m. Here, (x₁,y₁) represents any point on the line, and m is the slope. This form makes it easy to write an equation when you're given specific information.
Pro Tip: Remember that you can convert between these forms! If you have a point-slope form equation but need slope-intercept form for graphing, just solve for y to get it into y = mx + b format.
