Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

Anatomy is the study of body structures, while physiology examines how these structures function. There are different approaches to studying anatomy: gross anatomy looks at visible structures, microscopic anatomy examines tiny structures requiring magnification, regional anatomy studies specific body areas, and systemic anatomy focuses on discrete body systems.

The relationship between structure and function is fundamental - the form of body parts directly enables their specific functions. This connection exists at both macroscopic and microscopic levels. Physiology often centers around homeostasis, the body's tendency to maintain steady internal conditions.

The human body is organized in increasing levels of complexity: chemical (atoms and molecules), cellular (basic building blocks), tissue (groups of similar cells), organ (multiple tissues working together), organ system (related organs), and organism (the complete person). Understanding this hierarchy helps you see how simple components build into complex systems.

Quick Check: Think about your hand - its structure (bones, muscles, nerves) perfectly matches its function (grasping, feeling, manipulating). This structure-function relationship exists throughout your body!

The 11 organ systems include integumentary (skin), skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Healthcare providers assess these systems through inspection (looking), palpation (touching), auscultation (listening), and percussion (tapping).

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
