Meiosis: The Process of Creating Sex Cells
Meiosis begins with Prophase I, where chromosomes condense and form tetrads (pairs of homologous chromosomes). This is when crossing over occurs—genetic material is exchanged between chromosomes, creating new genetic combinations. This natural process increases genetic diversity and isn't considered a mutation.
In Metaphase I, the nuclear membrane disappears while centrioles move to opposite poles. Tetrads line up along the cell's equator as spindle fibers attach to chromosomes. During Anaphase I, homologous chromosomes separate and are pulled to opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase I and Cytokinesis complete the first division. Chromosomes reach the poles, spindle fibers dissolve, and the nucleus reforms. The cytoplasm divides, producing two haploid cells (cells with half the chromosome number).
💡 The key difference between mitosis and meiosis appears in Anaphase I, when homologous chromosomes separate instead of sister chromatids. This is how the chromosome number is reduced!
The second division (Prophase II through Telophase II) resembles mitosis. The nucleus dissolves again, chromosomes line up at the equator, and sister chromatids finally separate. By the end, four haploid cells are produced, each containing one set of chromosomes.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.
This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
Comprehensive Guide to Meiosis Stages
Meiosis is the special cell division process that creates sex cells (eggs and sperm) with half the normal chromosome count. This process ensures genetic diversity through crossing over and produces four unique haploid cells from a single diploid cell.
