Types of Sentences
When you write, you use four different types of sentences, each with its own purpose and punctuation. Think of these as different tools in your writing toolkit!
Interrogative sentences ask questions and always end with a question mark. For example: "Did you see?" These sentences help you gather information or start conversations.
Declarative sentences simply state facts or opinions without strong emotion. They end with a full stop (period). For example: "No I didn't." Most of the sentences in your school work are likely declarative.
Exclamatory sentences show strong emotions like excitement, anger or surprise. They always end with an exclamation mark! For example: "Yes I did!" Use these sparingly for impact.
Imperative sentences give commands or instructions. They can end with either a full stop or an exclamation mark depending on how forceful they are. For example: "Go and check!"
