For example, with $30.24 \div 0.42$ , you can multiply both numbers by 100. This turns $30.24$ into $3024$ and $0.42$ into $42$ . Now you just have $3024 \div 42$ , which is much easier to solve using regular division.

The same strategy works for other decimal division problems. With $6.3 \div 0.25$ , multiply both numbers by 100 to get $630 \div 25$ . Solve using long division, and you'll get $25.2$ as your answer.

Long division with decimals follows the same steps as regular long division - just keep your columns neat! The trick is converting to whole numbers first when possible.

For example, to solve $2.211 \div 0.7$ , you can multiply both numbers by 10 to get $22.11 \div 7$ . Then set up your long division normally, keeping track of the decimal point in your answer.

When dividing by multi-digit decimals like $1.03075 \div 0.25$ , multiply both numbers by 100 to convert $0.25$ to $25$ . Your problem becomes $103.075 \div 25$ , which equals $4.123$ .

Remember This: The key to decimal division is keeping the value the same by multiplying both the dividend and divisor by the same power of 10.
