Table of Contents Overview

The guide is organized into clear sections that cover the entire math curriculum. Here's what you'll find inside:

The first section focuses on Revision Techniques $page 3-6$ with a detailed revision timetable to help you organize your study time effectively. This includes planning tips and sample schedules for weekdays and weekends.

The core math content is divided into six main sections:

• Number operations, fractions, and calculations
• Algebra equations, graphs, and expressions
• Ratio, proportion and rates of change
• Geometry and measures for shapes, angles, and measurements
• Probability for analyzing chance and outcomes
• Statistics for handling and interpreting data

Each section contains detailed explanations with links to supporting YouTube tutorials for visual learners.

Remember: Good planning is half the battle! The revision timetable section will help you create a structured approach to your studies.

Revision Techniques

Effective revision isn't just about what you study, but how you study. The guide links to a comprehensive YouTube playlist covering 15 different revision techniques to maximize your learning.

Some key video topics include:

• When to start your revision (hint: earlier than you think!)
• Finding and maintaining motivation
• Using flashcards effectively
• Making the most of past exam papers
• Using color to make studying more engaging
• Creating and sticking to a study timetable

The most important techniques highlighted are creating a structured study plan, actively testing your knowledge (not just reading), and teaching concepts to others to strengthen your understanding.

Study Hack: According to research cited in the guide, teaching a concept to someone else is one of the most effective ways to cement your understanding. Try explaining math problems to friends or family members!

Creating Your Revision Timetable

Planning your revision time strategically is crucial for exam success. The guide provides a practical framework for creating an effective study timetable.

Start by identifying your fixed commitments (meals, clubs, favorite TV shows) and work around them. Then plan when you'll complete homework assignments, aiming for at least 2 additional hours of revision on weekdays and 4 hours each day on weekends.

For each subject, allocate specific time slots throughout the week:

• Core subjects (Math, English Language, English Literature): at least 3 hours each per week
• A-level choices: at least 3 hours each per week
• Subjects you struggle with: at least 2 hours each per week

The guide includes a helpful table to track how much time you should dedicate to each subject based on its priority level.

Time Management Tip: Spread out your revision for each subject rather than cramming it all into one day. Studying math for 30 minutes every day is more effective than 3.5 hours once a week.

Weekday Revision Schedule

The guide provides a blank timetable template to help you organize your weekday revision. The structure breaks your after-school hours into manageable 25-minute study blocks with short 5-minute breaks between each session.

This approach follows the popular "Pomodoro Technique" where focused work sessions are separated by brief breaks to maintain concentration and prevent burnout. The schedule runs from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, giving you plenty of time for structured revision.

For each time slot, you'll fill in which subject you plan to study. Try alternating between different types of subjects (like math and English) to keep your brain engaged and prevent fatigue from studying similar material back-to-back.

Brain Break: Those 5-minute breaks are not just random—they're scientifically proven to help your brain process information. Stand up, stretch, grab a drink of water, but avoid checking social media which can easily turn 5 minutes into 30!

Weekend Revision Schedule

Weekends offer valuable extra time for deeper learning and tackling more challenging topics. The guide provides another blank timetable template specifically for Saturday and Sunday studying.

Like the weekday schedule, the weekend plan uses 25-minute focused sessions with 5-minute breaks. However, you should aim to complete more sessions on weekend days—around 4 hours of total study time compared to 2 hours on weekdays.

Weekends are perfect for:

• Reviewing topics you struggled with during the week
• Working through practice problems and past exam questions
• Watching supplemental video tutorials for difficult concepts
• Creating summary notes or flashcards

At the bottom of the page, there's a reminder to check out the comprehensive GCSE Maths video available on YouTube, which covers the entire curriculum in one resource.

Weekend Warrior: Use at least one weekend session for active recall—put away your notes and test yourself on what you've learned. This strengthens your memory much more effectively than passive reading.

Number Operations and Skills

This section covers fundamental number skills with a clear self-assessment format. For each skill, you can track your progress with three review checkpoints (4-7 months before exam, 1-2 months before, and final week).

Key number topics include:

• Working with integers, fractions, and decimals
• Understanding mathematical operations and their order
• Identifying prime numbers, factors, and multiples
• Finding HCF (highest common factor) and LCM (lowest common multiple)
• Calculating with square and cube numbers and their roots
• Using standard form for very large or small numbers
• Converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages
• Rounding numbers and understanding limits of accuracy

Each skill links to a specific YouTube tutorial for additional help, allowing you to target your weaker areas with visual explanations.

Number Ninja: Master the order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS) early—it appears in questions across all math topics and is a common source of mistakes!

Advanced Number Skills and Algebra Basics

The higher tier section introduces more complex number concepts including:

• Working with surds (numbers in root form)
• Converting recurring decimals to fractions
• Determining upper and lower bounds of measurements

The algebra section begins with fundamental concepts of algebraic notation:

• Understanding that $ab$ means $a \times b$
• Recognizing that $4a$ equals $a + a + a + a$
• Working with expressions like $y^2$ and $\frac{a}{b}$

You'll learn essential algebra skills like:

• Substituting values into expressions
• Collecting like terms in expressions
• Multiplying out brackets (distributive property)
• Factorizing expressions by finding common factors
• Simplifying and rearranging algebraic expressions
• Using functions and plotting coordinates

Each topic has a corresponding YouTube link for visual explanations, making complex concepts easier to understand.

Algebra Alert: Factorizing is essentially the opposite of expanding brackets. Master both skills since they're fundamental to solving equations and simplifying expressions.

Algebra: Graphs and Equations

This page focuses on graphical representations in algebra and solving equations. You'll learn to:

• Plot lines from equations in the form $y = mx + c$
• Identify parallel lines from their equations
• Find the gradient and intercept of a line
• Recognize and sketch different function graphs (linear, quadratic, cubic)
• Solve linear and quadratic equations
• Work with simultaneous equations
• Express inequalities on number lines
• Find terms in sequences using the $n^{th}$ term

These skills build on your basic algebra knowledge and form the foundation for more complex problem-solving. The guide includes links to specific YouTube tutorials for visual explanations of these concepts.

For higher tier students, additional skills include:

• Working with algebraic fractions
• Factorizing more complex quadratic expressions
• Using algebra to construct mathematical proofs
• Working with inverse and composite functions

Graph Mastery: Understanding the relationship between equations and their graphs is crucial. When you see $y = mx + c$, remember that $m$ controls the steepness (gradient) and $c$ tells you where the line crosses the y-axis.
