Understanding Power
Power tells us how fast work gets done by a force. The formula is simply P = W/t (power equals work divided by time). The more power something has, the more work it can do in a shorter time.
Power is measured in watts (W), where 1 watt equals 1 joule per second. Another common unit is horsepower (hp), with 1 hp equaling 746 watts. When dealing with larger amounts, we use kilowatts (kW), which is 1000 watts or about 1.34 hp.
When a constant force moves an object at constant velocity in the same direction as the force, power can be calculated using P = Fv (power equals force times velocity). This is super helpful in many real-world problems.
💡 Energy Insight: A kilowatt-hour (kWh) on your electric bill isn't a unit of power—it's a unit of energy! It represents the work done in 1 hour by a device using 1 kilowatt of power (3.6 million joules).
The efficiency of any system is the percentage of input power that becomes useful output power: Efficiency = × 100%. No machine is 100% efficient due to energy losses like friction and heat.
Power in Action: Real-World Examples
Power calculations let you solve all kinds of practical problems. For instance, a person climbing stairs is producing power equal to their weight times gravity times height, all divided by the time taken.
When objects move along angled surfaces, the work done depends on the force, distance, and the angle between them. A horizontal force pushing something up a ramp requires calculating work as W = Fs·cosθ (force × distance × cosine of the angle).
Efficiency matters tremendously in real machines. An 80% efficient motor means only 80% of the electrical power becomes useful mechanical power—the rest becomes waste heat. When planning how long a job will take, you must account for this efficiency loss.
🔍 Test Tip: Many power problems can be solved by rearranging the simple formula P = Fv. If you know power and force, you can find velocity , or if you know power and velocity, you can find force .
When vehicles move through water or air, they must overcome resistive forces. The power needed equals this resistance force multiplied by velocity. This explains why going faster requires exponentially more power!

I think it’s very much worth it and you’ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still don’t get it!!! This is not an ai review or anything this is genuinely coming from a 7th grade student (I know 2011 im young) but dude this app is a 10/10 i have maintained a 3.8 gpa and have plenty of time for gaming.
