God the Son: Journeys with His People
The story of God's relationship with humanity takes a profound turn in the New Testament. This chapter explores how God the Son journeys with His people, connecting the ancient promises to their fulfillment.
This journey bridges the gap between God's earlier covenants and the arrival of Jesus Christ, showing how divine plans unfold across generations.
The Old Testament Foundation
The Old Testament lays crucial groundwork through three main divisions: the Torah (the first five books containing law and early history), the Nevi'im (writings of the prophets), and the Ketuvim (other writings including poetry and wisdom literature).

Mary: Chosen by God
Mary was the daughter of Anne and Joachim, living an ordinary life in the town of Nazareth in Galilee. She was engaged to Joseph, who came from the royal lineage of King David.
Her seemingly ordinary background makes her selection as the mother of Jesus even more remarkable. God chose someone from humble circumstances for an extraordinary role in salvation history.
The Annunciation Begins
In Luke 1:26-28, we learn how God sent the angel Gabriel to visit Mary in Nazareth. The angel greeted her with extraordinary words: "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you."
This unexpected greeting marks the beginning of the most important announcement in history. The angel addresses Mary with unusual respect, indicating she has been specially chosen for a divine purpose.

The Divine Message
Mary was understandably troubled by the angel's unusual greeting. Gabriel reassured her and delivered the incredible news: she would conceive a son named Jesus, who would be called the Son of the Most High.
The angel explained that this child would inherit the throne of David and reign forever. This directly connected Jesus to the royal lineage and fulfilled the prophecies about a Messiah from David's line.
Mary's Question and God's Answer
Mary asked a practical question: "How will this be, since I am a virgin?" Rather than expressing doubt, she sought to understand God's plan.
The angel explained that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and the power of God would overshadow her. Through this miracle, her child would be called the Son of God—both fully human and fully divine.
Mary's Faithful Response
To confirm God's power, Gabriel mentioned that Mary's relative Elizabeth—considered too old to have children—was already six months pregnant, declaring that "no word from God will ever fail."
Mary's response demonstrates perfect faith: "I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done unto me according to your word." With this acceptance, Mary agreed to God's plan despite the challenges it would bring to her life.
