How do I send a voice message in AI chat?

Hold the microphone in AI chat to record and release to send, or slide to cancel. Tap it to record hands-free. Some accounts can also send a voice message with photos or files.

Updated October 23, 2026

You can send a voice message instead of typing in AI chat. Allow microphone access when Knowunity asks.

Record with the microphone

Open AI chat and use the microphone beside the message field.

  1. Press and hold the microphone to record. The input shows Slide to cancel.
  2. Release it to send your recording.
  3. To discard it instead, slide towards the cancel hint before releasing.

Record hands-free

Tap the microphone, or slide upwards while holding it, to keep recording without holding.

  • Tap Send recording to stop and send.
  • Tap Delete recording to discard the unsent recording.

Voice messages with photos or files

Some students can send a voice message together with photos or files they have added. When files are added and the message field is empty, the microphone appears next to the send button. Other accounts need to send the files and the voice message separately. This is being tested. You cannot opt in or out, and support cannot switch it on.

The microphone does not work

Check that Knowunity has microphone permission in your device settings. Update the app and try again. If recording still fails, use the support form under A technical problem and include the message you see.

Voice message or Voice Recall?

A voice message is part of your AI conversation. To practise explaining a study-plan topic out loud, see How do I use Voice Recall?
